Occasional musings

Missing in Action

When I started this blog, I didn’t intend my postings to be quite so ‘occasional’. One post in three years isn’t much of an effort. I’d like to say I’ve been busy writing fiction, but that sounds like a cop-out, even to me.
I've completely reworked the website and have moved it to another host. I look forward to spending more time developing the site and experimenting with a few ideas.
My next book is nearly ready to send to my editor. It is a thriller set in New Zealand’s South Island. The premise came to me after years of watching and reading thrillers in which an imperilled protagonist’s phone is broken up, and the SIM card discarded. What would happen—I wondered—if someone found that SIM card and inserted it in their phone. Dead If You Find Me is the result. I’m aiming for a November release.
Beyond the Sea is still finding new readers, which is encouraging, and I expect sales to ramp up again when Dead if you Find Me comes out. Thanks for reading. Back soonish.

After years of work, Beyond The Sea is finally launched. I’ve loved spending time with these characters and hope you enjoy their company too. The book is an action-adventure novel that places ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. The setting is Indonesia's Maluku Islands, otherwise known as the Spice Islands. This small archipelago was once the world's only source of nutmeg, cloves, and mace, which in the sixteenth century, pound for pound, cost more than gold. With high prices came high costs, mostly paid in blood by local islanders at the hands of the Dutch East Indiamen. In the twenty-first century, the colonialist are long gone, and nutmeg is available at your local supermarket for a pittance. But the Spice Island's violent past continues to haunt the unwary.
I hope you enjoy the voyage. If you haven’t purchased the book yet, you can buy a copy here…
